On time with the FIFA wolrd cup, football enthusiasts and experts remember the legendary Wembley goal 40 years ago and doubt the continuous technical development since then. Isn’t it possible to install a transmitter into the ball in order decide goal scenes more precisely?
The Fraunhofer Institute für integrierte Schaltungen is researching on behalf of Cairos Technologies AG the so called Smartball which should avoid situations like Wembley thanks to Wireless Tracking technology. The official ball “Teamgeist” for this year’s World Cup will not be equipped with such technology. Therefore, experts and fans from all nations continue arguing about goals or No-goals.
