Is Web 2.0 just a useful combination of WWW-Standards?

When Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989 his main idea was to share information between people and to communicate in that information space.

tblHe also thought of the Web as “a realistic mirror of the ways in which we work and play and socialize” one day. Today, parts of these dreams are our world’s reality. The amount of information available on the WWW and the fact of more and more people using it in their everyday life shows that we already seem to benefit from his ideas.

Visions for the future

Dresden celebrates its 800th anniversary this year. Several events have already taken place or will take place during the year.

One example of how to combine the city’s past with future visions and ideas is the congress “Zukunft der Visionen” (Future of Visions) from 13th to 14th October 2006, where several institutions will present their visions of the future in their field: science and technology as well as religion, society and media. Although, the actual outcome of this vision is yet unknown, one thing is for sure: There will not be a uniformed vision about the future for all parts of life. In fact, the future will be a mix of different visions, ideas and systems.

Pupils from Dresden primary schools have already visualized their visions of the future. Now, institutions and companies are asked to send in their ideas about the future in their sectors. All contributions will be shown at the congress.
