Summary 2008
On Thursday June 5, 2008 a group of scientists, experts, entrepreneurs and other interested parties took a trip into the world of tomorrow on the initiative of Dresden-based T-Systems Multimedia Solutions GmbH at the 3rd Dresden Future Forum “Living in a Digital World” hosted at the International Congress Center in Dresden.
The event was an opportunity to pick up on the topics discussed at the first two Future Forums, to delve into them in more detail and to develop them further. A particular focus was on how current developments will influence our everyday life and the future of work.
This time around, topics included the shift to Enterprise 2.0, driven by Web 2.0, the increasing importance of computer games and their influence on the world of business, as well as the progress achieved in the field of artificial intelligence and the way in which it is applied on the Internet. The event was moderated by science journalist and author, Ranga Yogeshwar, also known as the host of popular TV series like “Quarks & Co” or “Die große Show der Naturwunder”. Thomas Jurk opened the 3rd Dresden Future Forum
Thomas Jurk, Minister of the Free State of Saxony opened the 3rd Dresden Future Forum. In his short welcoming address he emphasized the climate of innovation in Saxony, evident not least in the nano-, micro- and bio-technology industries that have based their operations in the region.
Prof. Wahlster - Web 3.0: Semantic technologies for the Internet of services and things
In his lecture Prof. Wahlster defines Web 3.0 as the combination of the semantic web with Web 2.0 technologies. The Internet of services and things is the next stage of development in web technology.
Don Tapscott on Wikinomics: Achieving new success with Enterprise 2.0
“Guten Morgen” … and then the speaker launched into English. Don Tapscott, author of the best-selling book Wikinomics, talked about the relationship between internet technology, economics and society in the 21st century, something which he calls Wikinomics.
The interplay between virtual reality and the real world
The 3rd Dresden Future Forum was treated to a sample of the work of the Trans-Media-Academy Hellerau dance company. The dancers performed directly connected to a virtual environment, simultaneously playing an instrument with their own bodies, recording a film, and interacting with other dancers.
Idea competition
The 3rd Dresden Future Forum competition was announced to promote creative ideas on internet-based technologies or services with a particular reference to the topics addressed at the event.
Yadegar Asisi – Architect of illusions
Yadegar Asisi wants to realize one of mankind’s oldest dreams with his panoramic images. As yet his pictures are static images that make Mount Everest, historic Dresden or Ancient Rome come alive in gigantic gasometers.
